Which employees need to file an Income Tax Report independently?

If your employer decides to offer you company shares as a bonus (free of charge) or at a reduced price, taxable income arises in the form of non-cash remuneration at the share’s value, or at the amount that exists between the market share price and the reduced share price. If a Czech company provides the shares, this income is taxed together with your salary and just like your salary. It is subject to social and health insurance contributions as well. In this scenario, you do not need to submit a separate Income Tax Declaration. In practice, there are many more cases where a foreign parent company offers shares as part of a bonus scheme. If that is the case, the employee has to take care of that bonus’ taxation through the preparation and filing of an independent Income Tax Report.

Questions & Answers

  • Under what conditions should I file my Income Tax Declaration independently and not through my employer?
If in a previous fiscal year at least one of the following events took place, you are obliged to submit an independent Income Tax Report:
    a) receipt of shares as a bonus from a foreign parent company. Income relates to the share value that you received free of charge, or the difference in the market price and the reduced price (in case shares are purchased at a reduced price).
    b) receipt of foreign dividends. It does not matter whether a foreign broker has already deducted tax from dividends, your Income Tax Report has to be submitted.
    c) the total value of shares sold exceeds 100 000 CZK in any one reporting year. This is especially important if you have owned the securities for over three years.
  • What are the steps of the Income Tax Report preparation process in DoMyTax?
    1) The questionnaire should be completed with all supporting documents attached.
    2) Confirmation shall be sent to your email address with a request to provide missing documents, if applicable.
    3) You’ll receive the Income Tax Report and bank requisites for processing the tax payment.
    4) In case you would like DoMyTax to submit your Income Tax Report electronically, we will prepare a Power of Attorney for your signature. The price of this service is 500 CZK*.
  • In addition to my salary and dividends, I have other sources of income. How much does it cost to prepare an Income Tax Report in this case?
In this case, an Income Tax Report would cost from 3 000 CZK*.
